Face shields provide face and supplementary eye protection against light impact
such as small particles or dust, splash from non-hazardous liquids, glare (tinted
shades only), and moderate heat. They are effective against sparks and small
clippings, sand, metal machining chips, spot-welding, non-injurious liquids,
moderate heat sources and similar applications.
Face shields are not unbreakable. They will not protect against severe impact
hazards such as, but not limited to, fragmenting grinding wheels or abrasive discs,
explosive devices, corrosive liquids, molten metal, ultra-violet (arc) or infrared (arc
and high heat) radiation. Machine guards, eye-conforming splash protection, filter
lenses or other suitable means must be used for these hazards. Impact-resistant
or splash-resistant eye protection must always be worn in addition to face shields.
Filter lenses must be worn where injurious ray hazards exist.
Pitted or scratched visors reduce vision and seriously reduce impact protection—
they should be immediately replaced. Inspect frequently and immediately replace
worn or damaged parts. Clean only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Do not
use solvents.
